Thomas Lubanga.
Thomas Lubanga Dyilo, the first defendant tried before the International Criminal Court, was found guilty of committing war crimes involving the use of child soldiers in the civil war in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Click here to read on the Lubanga verdict.
The Lubanga decision is a significant marker for the continued development of international law. It has laid the groundwork for the kind of trial that Joseph Kony, another notorious perpetrator of war crimes involving child soldiers, deserves.
Citizens for Global Solutions has worked tirelessly for decades promoting international justice. The organization advocated for the Court’s creation, attended the conference that established the Court in 1998, pushed for the Clinton administration to sign the Rome Statute, and fought hard against the Bush administration’s position of undermining the Court. We have utilized the occasion of the Lubanga verdict to send Congress an open letter along with 11 other organizations, calling for supporting a “continuing, positive U.S. relationship with the Court.”
Citizens for Global Solutions will continue to support the arrest of other human rights violators, like Syria’s Al-Assad, Sudan’s Bashir, and LRA leader Joseph Kony.
Thanks for all that you do,
Don Kraus.
